Welcome Mesentery - The Newly Identified Body Part

Published on

Evelyn Glennie was right while saying that “human body and mind are tremendous forces that are continually amazing scientists and society”. Just when we think we know all about ourselves, there is some new amazement waiting in store. One such matter is the discovery of a new organ- mesentery (the 79th organ). Some of us might think that mesentery is no big deal because much about it has been known already. But until recently, when the mesentery was discovered to be a single continuous organ, it was considered to be fragmented structures in the gastrointestinal system. In fact, scientists also believe that the vitality of this organ should device an entire science of the mesentery- the mesenteric science.

The mesentery is a peritoneal fold which connects the small intestine to abdominal wall, performs the function of transporting blood and lymph to and fro the intestine, besides securing it steadfastly in its position.

With the discovery of new organs, scientists are also expecting cures to many serious conditions of the intestine which have been considered incurable so far.
